It Forces Small Images to Fill the Viewing Area

It just started doing this a couple of weeks ago. I have it set to "Fit to screen. Large images only," but it stretches small images to fill the viewing area. Large images are resized to fit as they should be, but so are small ones which shouldn't be.

How do I fix this. (I downloaded and installed the latest version -- no change)

Are you referring to only full screen mode? If so, does it do it consistently after restarting IrfanView? Pressing the F key or 3 key will temporarily fit all images in fullscreen. However, your fit only large images setting should resume if you leave and re-enter full screen mode. Does it do something different?

No. I don't use full screen mode. The frame is Maximized but not in full screen mode. I just realized from your question that full screen doesn't mean Maximized. It does the same thing in both Maximized and Normal mode.

      Yes.

The fit large only appears to work properly in Full Screen mode. It just doesn't work in modes other than Full Screen.

The F key toggles through a variety of sizing options -- original size, fit to screen, stretched wide, etc.

Good thing I asked. The setting you are referring to applies only to full screen, which is why it is on the full screen tab in Properties/Settings. Window mode is configured separately from full screen mode. Maximized would be window mode. As would be IrfanView if all the toolbars were hidden.

You need to go to View > Display options (window mode). Choose an option in each of the three sections.

Right, it toggles through the six modes you can choose in the dialog. Fit all images would come after fit only large, so pressing F once would take you to that mode, for example.

          Thanks.

I vaguely remember going through this before. It seems like all the options should be in the "Options" menu. To put full screen viewing options in Options and other viewing options in other places isn't intuitive.

Putting options in different places can be disorienting, but window display needs to be accessible on the fly for changing. Putting it in Properties would probably require an overhaul of the interface to accomodate all those options. Most options that are rarely changed are put in the dialog since they aren't frequently accessed. Remember also that in fullscreen there is no way to change the options other than Properties, but in window view we have a menu.

I know, I know. Fullscreen options actually appears in the View menu! What are we to do?
