    Zooming question (version 4.2)

    Irfanview 4.2 , Windows XP

I found a thread similar to my issue, but didn't quite find what I'm seeking.

What options do I use in Irfanview 4.2 so that very large images fit to the desktop, AND zooming in will show the large image at its original size? (Without having to use Ctrl+H each time I open a new image).

In Irfanview version 4.0, I used the option "Fit only big images to desktop" (under view, display). When opening a large image, it would be displayed smaller than its original size, and zooming in would eventually display the image at its original size.

Now in version 4.2 when I open a large image, though it fits to the desktop (as in previous versions), Irfanview skips past the original size when zooming in. For instance, a 1450 x 1450 image is first displayed small enough to fit the desktop. But as I zoom in, the image is shown at 1402 x 1402, and the next zoom increment displays it at 1542 x 1542.

How do I get the previous viewing setup I had with version 4.0?
Much obliged in advance. : )

Options>Properties/settings>Viewing offers 3 different Zoom settings. The one you want is probably Fixed values which includes 100% as one of the values. I do not remember that being in v4.0 though.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, Mij! Using fixed values did the trick. : )

roight, roight... In 4.0 there was only "Zoom step (default 10%)". So zooming in & out automatically displayed the image at its original size, since in essence it was using the equivalent of the new "Fixed values".

      Many thanks.

Even though the new zoom methods far better, I do miss the way zoom worked in 4.0 and past versions. It was nice being able to choose you own fixed values. Absolute doesn't work for this unless you start at 1:1, which isn't always ideal.

        2 greentree:

This may not be what you're looking for, but you can toggle between fit only big images to desktop and 1:1 by pressing SHIFT+F.

          1024*1102 becomes ... 437*470

          .
          I have just downloaded 4.20.

In fact , since now ~8 years , i downloaded a lot of new versions. Still keeping the old ones happily.

This first time I am very upset ,
because when opening my first 1024*1102 image it opens "(zoom 437*470)"
          .

            .
View -> Display Options -> Fit Images to Desktop was selected

The keyboard shortcut is a plain "F" which , perhaps , was entered inadvertently.
            .
