    Always shows images alphabetically

I use Irfanview as my default picture viewer. I load my pictures using the "date modified" for picture order. This way the last picture I enter is always at the bottom of the page (they're in cronological order).

When I look at an image (without opening Irfanview separately) and then want to view the next image, I click the right or left arrows. The problem is, I don't get the next image in line. I get the next image in alphabetical order.

Under the settings tab "Misc#1" I have the box checked to "jump to next image if page keys or mouse wheel is used". I don't see any other settings that would correct my problem (annoyance). I have the latest edition.

Am I missing something or is this nornal?

    Any suggestions appreciated.

Files are sorted independently of how they are sorted in Windows Explorer. Use Options>Sort directory files>by Date (ascending) or in the Thumbnail Window (T), Options>Sort thumbnails.

Actually, it is remarkably difficult to have IrfanView sort the files as they display in Windows Explorer. If such a particualar custom order is absolutely necessary, one must create a txt file of the names and load it using the No Sort option. IrfanView can do this for you though.

      Problem solved

Skippybox, thanks for the reply. I'm beginning to realize the complexities of using Irfanview and Windows Explorer together.

To give credit where credit is due, I received an answer from "Fairnooks" on the "Tech Support Guy Forum (Software section)". It might help somebody in the future.

      From Fairnooks:
Open a file in Irfanview in the desired folder then Click on File>Thumbnails (or just right click on the photo and choose Thumbnails). Then select all and right click and sort by whatever criteria desired. Close or minimize thumbnails and the Irfanview single photo browser should present the photos as you've just sorted them.............................................

This seems to have takes care of the "alphabetical" problem.

      Thanks again
