Changing resolution setting without recompressing

My recollection is that some earlier versions of IV would immediately change the resolution data in the image file when the user changed those values in the Image Information dialog -- the image did not have to be re-saved. The current version (I'm running 4.23) does not have that behavior, but I do not want to have to re-compress the image just to change the resolution data.

Does anyone have any insight into this?
