I'm a little confused now with this. You installed the MSI by mistake? That is the RIOT independent program. The Lite and Extended are plugins for IrfanView. Extended uses the FreeImage.dll similar to the full RIOT program.

Did you get the RIOT plugin to finally work?

Yeah I am probably confused as well. Sorry. I did install the msi, but then used the other one. What with versions and betas etc, I got lost.

At this stage everything seems to be fine using the IView plugins!

I have reinstalled IView, and I will try the instructions for the latest RIOT.

I installed the new RIOT and it all seems OK. Thanks for your patience, both of you.

Glad all is working. BTW, did you end up installing the 0.3 beta plugin after all?

Yep. Sure did! I followed the _instructions_ and everything worked. Weird how that happens

This is exactly the reason why I need to create a setup package for the plugins.
Do you know any good method for detecting IrfanView install folder ?

The uninstall program is written into the registry when using setup, and I can use that. For other cases I can test for "C:\Program Files\IrfanView\i_view32.exe" or let users choose the folder.

0.3.0 beta turned out to be quite stable. No errors so far.

PS: I am working with Irfan to change some parameters to allow metadata saving when using RIOT's Set file size.

Hmm.. Never needed a setup procedure for the plugin. Just a matter of unpacking and copying to the right position(s).
And I woulf find it a pity if the registry is needed. I don't like the registry.

The setup package won't write anything to the windows registry. It will probably read a key where the IrfanView installer stores his uninstall program.

The need for a setup program is obvious - not everybody knows:
                  1. how to work with archive files or copy files
                  2. how to locate IrfanView folder
                  3. where to put FreeImage.dll and Riot.dll

Even if I find the current install procedure very simple, I know many users want a simpler procedure like double click , Next, Install.
80-90% percent of users download the MSI installer.
I will always provide a non-installer package (zip or rar) for people like myself and sam_zen. But I am aware that most users want a setup wizard.

It's good to know that RIOT will always run as standalone (no runtime, no registry). I don't plan to change that. It can run from a memory stick or even on a read-only media like CD/DVD ROM. Running from a read-only media does not allow the program to save last settings though....

The only procedure is that Sam-Zen. I did not realise you had to copy freeimage.dll from one folder to another, that was all.

                      Now _I_ am confused, luciansabo.

I was told the msi installer does not give you the plugin, but only a standalone. That's why I used the other version.

There is no setup package for the plugins. As you can read in my last messages, I plan to create one.

I just said most users download the MSI installer, to point out that people preffer setup wizards, but this msi file has nothing to do with the plugins. The msi installer contains the standalone program as you were told.

Nice. Quite a relief. And I understand the setup-needs for the average user.
