    Win 7 - Blue Screen (cdd.dll)

I tested Irfan (4.23 with plugins pack) on Windows 7 Build 7057. It ran ok for a while but then suddenly blue screened in cdd.dll.

I know Irfan is not supported on Win 7 but perhaps this info might be of interest to others. This blue screen occurred while using the thumbnails module I will try add cdd.dll to data execution prevention (if it's possible) and see if it occurs again.

I must say Win 7 is awesome, I am using it as my full time desktop OS right now, it's very stable, snappy and kicks Vista in the butt. Irfan has been the first piece of software to crash it, everything I run is all running perfectly. Cannot wait for final release and then we'll see how Irfan runs.

I'm waiting for the final release of Windows 7 too because it's time to buy me a new system Of course I'll also try IV on it (after TotalCMD) Maybe version 4.23 crashes, but any of the older versions may not. Did you try other viewers within Windows 7 in thumbnails mode? Like for instance Faststone Viewer and/or XnView (both free) or ACDsee (http://www.oldversion.com)?

I have a set of images (66 MB, 2448 files) that always causes BSoD with cdd.dll in IrfanView's thumbnail view under 64 bit Windows 7 RC1. I tried XnView, FastStone Image Viewer and Windows Explorer and these don't crash.

The images can be viewed from IrfanView's default view without any problems. I pressed the right arrow key to quickly open them all.

If you need the images, I can upload them somewhere if it helps.

I suppose Irfan will test his program in Windows 7 and I assume he will adapt IrfanView to this new operating system. It's no point to run Win7 on my system now, so I won't be able to test your images under 64 bit, Bohdan. I don't use the thumbnail modus, so I don't think I'll go through the error mitchellk and you are talking about. But I'm sure Irfan will solve this shortcoming.

I don't know if it's bad form to bump such an old thread on this forum, or for that matter if there's a newer thread on this topic (the forum search doesn't find "cdd.dll" at all, which is unhelpful). In any case:

I experienced the BSOD when the program ran through a bunch of thumbnails on Windows 7 RC. The first program to crash this system! I fixed it by selecting "Disable desktop composition" under properties/compatibility.

This Problem happens in IV 4.25 an Win 7 x64 still. So i tried the hint of a former poster (see above) and it works!!

            Please IV-Crew fix this!

            Thanks!

I disabled desktop composition globally in Vista because it made positioning windows where I wanted them a big pain. I would try to nudge something half an inch right and it would jump an inch left. I needed order more than I needed eye-candy.

Like many others, I am waiting for the dust to settle and the bugs to die before even thinking about adopting Win7.

I got the same cdd.dll error with the Thumbnail viewer (over 3000 images in a directory, using 100x100 pixel thumbs).
I tried it on 3 different computers with 3 different versions of Windows 7 x64: Ultimate build 7100, Ultimate build 7229 and Professional build 7600 (retail). Always had the same error.
Disabling the desktop composition solves the problem for now, however a new version of Irfanview would be better

I think a new version of Win7 would be better

I ran IV in Win7 for a couple of days, but the computer didn't have a lot of images on it and I didn't bother to transfer any (the computer owner wouldn't know how to look at them anyway). So I had neither time nor files to play around with this bugness. I was not terribly impressed with Win7. It seemed slow compared to my Vista machine. But then it had a lot more default Microsoft-ware running.

No troubles here with maps full of JPG's (9000) - IV 4.25 in Windows 7 - 32 bit.
The speed of Windows is always depending on the machine where it is installed on.
On my machine (OCZ-ssd startdisk and DDR3 memory) it is pretty quick at both the view and thumbnail modus.
