Count variable in Text/Pattern Options?

Hello, I've never had problems with IrfanView before, everything went just fine. But now my good friend gave me a task. He want to have his images watermarked with simple mask like X####, where #### should be number of processed image. We are talking about Batch conversion of course (with result of the exactly same image - the only difference is in little text in upper right corner).

I tried to figure it out, but all of my attemps failed. I've found something like variable $X, but it has really annoying result of '[x/y]'. Is there any possibility how to get only the x (ie. number of total count of actually processed image)?

If these are simply copies of the exact same image, why not batch rename them with an index, then batch convert with the text, using $N as the variable for the filename. You can even rename them back, at the same time as the conversion.
