/tifc=value command line option on Windows 2008

    Hello,

I'm trying to run Irfanview on Windows 2008 for merging single-page TIF's into a multi-page TIF using the /append command line option. It is creating a multi-page TIF just fine but the file size is getting larger. The original single-page TIF's are compressed files (using Group 4 Fax Encoding), however; after the conversion, the file information shows that no compression is in use. I tried using the /tifc=4 option but it didn't help.

I tried the same operation from Windows XP and it worked just fine. Has anyone seen this before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

This has been resolved. Please see Irfan's comments below:

Yes, the append option uses the TIF compression which is set e.g. in
TIF save options or using /tifc.

You mean, the same command line call works on XP but not on your Win2008 ?

If yes, this is a problem with your INI file location, a permission problem.

I assume, if you start IrfanView on your Win2008, you are not able to
save any settings, if you change something and restart IrfanView?

See the IrfanView folder, file i_view32.ini.

    Is there an entry like:

    [Others]
    INI_Folder=%APPDATA%\IrfanView

    or similar?

If you install IrfanView on Vista or later, the installer will offer
you to place the INI file in the Application Data folder, use this
option and there should be no any INI permission problems.

Previously, there was no [Others] section in my ini file. I added the INI_Folder option to my i_view32.ini file and now the /tifc=4 command line option is working.

    Thank you.
