It seems that everyone is running Irfanview just fine on Vista x64, but that is not the case for me. There are two new computers involved, both running Vista in 64-bit mode. They currently have SP2, and Irfanview version is 4.25. The only difference I can think of is that it is the Japanese version of Windows, but normally that is not a problem. Any thoughts on what to do to troubleshoot?
More details, in case it helps: Both computers were bought before SP2 came out, and initially neither one could run Irfanview (installs okay, but when you try to run, a message appears from the operating system saying that an error occurred). My husband found an obscure comment on the internet about the need for a particular Windows hotfix, which isn't even available by the normal Windows Update method - you have to fill out a form to get a special link via email, which includes a link for the download and a password for unzipping the file. For one computer, the hotfix did allow Irfanview to run. But before we got around to installing the hotfix on the second computer, SP2 was installed. According to MS, SP2 includes that hotfix, but Irfanview still doesn't run, and now the computer refuses to install the hotfix, saying that it's not the right version of Windows for the hotfix. Grrrr!
