    Videos in .ram

    Hi

I use Irfanview alot to view images.

Do you know if it will support .ram files as I need to watch some training videos.

IrfanView opens Real Audio (.RA) files. Is that what you were asking?

Good decision not to dl RP..

Real Audio has 3 extensions : RA for audio, RAM for audio with sometimes video, and RM for video.
It's a choice of course to use the IV plugin for Real types, but things from Real are very bulky.

So I prefer to use a player that doesn't need extra Real stuff.
A simple player can be found here

But there are more. This page offers an overview :

Lots of 'audio' and 'video' files come along with viruses and spyware. Some websites even require you to download their own proprietary programs to view their multimedia content!

So unless you are SURE that the file and website are good, better to lay off files that cannot be opened by common programs. Make sure you have installed a good security product and that it is up-to-date too.

WellOiledPC, I think that website that LizE wants to download from is one of those annoying ones that give you no alternative than to use Real Audio.
I do have RA on my computer but even when some other program is associated with .ra and .ram files, RA still leaps in to play it when I click on the link. All the right click options to play with something else appear to be disabled too.
As I recall if you do not have RA installed the only option you are offered is to download it.

LizE's website is a Government Health website and so, is most likely safe: Norton 360 does not report it as a phished site too. My post was general and cautionary!

You are probably correct, Mij - even the extensive Audio and Video Codecs in KLite do not play Real Video files. I had installed RA long ago, but removed it during my next hard disk format - have kept away from it ever since. Hadn't Real had got into lots of trouble over capturing and using personal information? I too haven't checked whether there are free converters/ codecs that lets one play RAM files without having to install Real Media player!
