    Longest Lenght (its an emergercy)

Hi, so I've been searching the net for answers and could not find any so here i am in desperate need of help, the company's buget relies on it. I scan extremely large documents and I recently tried infranview and it was a success, my docs are so much cleaner and well the settings are really "Sweet", the thing is I use a Vidar Scanner and the program we had for it crashed, hence the reason infranview, the thing is I have some docs exactly 139 inches long but with infranview I'm only going up to a few inches shorter than that, 16inches to be exact. All i need, all i want is "CAN I GET A LONGER LENGHT?" AND IF SO HOW? I went into infranview settings and well still nothing. I have a dead line and its either we buys some other program costing alot of money (When you convert the Us to TT) or i save us money and use a software i'm comfortable with. I'm not just looking at the cheap side of things but I really love the program and the cut and paste is like super simple especially when u have like 100 maps to cut and paste, and the pic quality is out of this world. So if theres anyone out there that could help with my questions and can do so in a short space of time, I swear I'll 4ever be indebted to you. Thankyou in advance and well Bye......Oh and if anyone is going to reply "Scan the document in 2, like scan the top and bottom and paste them together, I can't some of the data I carries lines that must be exact, so it can't be off by a dot.

There's something I don't understand: first of all, you say that you get few inces shorter than 139, but I never experienced limitations of real size dimensions: what error message do you get? Are they related to IrfanView or to the TWAIN driver? Do you experience similar problems if you try to scan such big pictures in other applications?
What do you mean for "convert the Us to TT"?
By the way, the limitations of IrfanView are in internal uncompressed image size, which must not exceed 2 GB, and this is related to width and height in pixels (which are not directly linked with real size).

1st with the program that came with the vidar there really was no limitations, 2. I don't get a error message at all, the doc goes into the large format scanner and comes bk out, because i know the paper doesn't go all the way in, i know its not scanning the entire doc, so i measured it to see by how much was really scanning. 3. Well as i said before with the old program that crashed I had no problems with the lenght, it was limit less. 4. Us meaning American dollars and TT meaning Trinidad and Tobago dollars (my country). and 5. what ur trying to tell me is in the infranview software because there are no limitations that means theres no settings for its lenght? and can u explain what u wrote in baby terms in ur last paragraph?

Hmmm, if your company is using IrfanView, maybe your company would like to purchase IrfanView - it is free for personal, non-commercial usage alone!

If you have any special requirements, the program's developer customizes as per your requirements as well.
        Download IrfanView Help Manual from:

OK, but I mean, did you try with any other software that can do scanning (Office, Paint.NET, ...)?
By the way, Windows XP can perform scans even without any additional program by double-clicking the scanner in Windows Explorer (with WIA scanners this works, I don't know if it works also with TWAIN drivers); did you try that?

Uh, ok I thought it had some strange technical meaning.

Exactly. IV doesn't enforce any other limit than memory limits, that do not depend from the real size of the scanned object, but from the actual number of bytes that IrfanView has to work with. Each pixel (on 24 bpp images) is 3 bytes, and the maximum memory IrfanView can allocate for an image is somewhat less than 2 GB (1 GB = 2^30 B), you can easily figure out if you've exceeded the limit.
We can also figure it out together: just tell me (1) what is the size of the biggest scanned image you manage to obtain and (2) if something changes if you change the resolution (DPI) of the scan.

            Hi triciaapple,

In order to reduce the amount of memory required, try to reduce the resolution.

My goodness, I could not get on to your site for a couple days, I almost died. Test #1:Ok lets see I scanned a Drawing thats 138cm in real lenght. Using infranview I placed it on B/w and on 200 DPI. Only 55cm was scanned and the memory size of that image was 2.41 MB (2,529,200 bytes) . Test #2 Scanning same size Drawing real lenght 138cm. Using Infranview I place setting on B/w and on 75 DPI and I got the same lenght 55cm again and the size of that image was 474 KB (485,974 bytes). So what now?

Thanks Laurent I tried that. I think we might need to go a lil internal on this one cause still no luck.

                  Hi priciaapple,

Softwares seem to be availlable on Vidar website. Try to download the on appropriate for your scanner and install it to replace the crashed version.

That was the 1st thing i tried. Didn't work, the IT person we have here did that and no. Cause with the software we have to run a maintenance on it before it can scan anything. I tried running the maintence but still it keeps telling me to clean the scanner. Long story Short I doesn't work.

                      Hi triciaapple,

Well, if the maintenance software detects your scanner has to be cleaned, it means it detects a problem with the scanner. I believe this problem has to be solved first. Try another program to see if it handles the scanner properly. If it fails too, the problem is with the scanner. If it works, then use that other program.
