video function in Irfanview

Hello, this is my first post. I have Irfanview with all of the plugins, or so I thought; I also used to have AVS converter on the PC. I used to play AVIs in irfanview with no problem but now I get the .vids message and can only use audio. I suspect that perhaps a shared dll or something got deleted whenever I uninstalled the AVS program? anyway I downloaded codecs, then the MCMP/MJPEG Codec today. After the install, my video came up in Irfanview, but when I clicked onto the play button, nothing happened. I did check file associations and both MJPEG and AVI were checked so now I am stumped. The videos will play in Quicktime player though. Do I need to reinstall something or the Irfanview player?

In Irfanview open Properties/Settings from the Options menu and choose the Video/Sound tab.
You will see that you have a number of choices of Internal or External player including Quicktime if you have the appropriate plugin installed.
