Cut outside area of selection - how do I get rid of the black border?

I had a photo that I cropped by creating a box and then choosing cut outside area of selection. But now the photo has a black border around it. How do I make the picture take up the whole frame again?

I looked through help but didn't find anything (or I didn't recognize the answer).

Instead create a box and hit STRG+Y (or alternatively via menu choose edit > crop selection)

To make it the same size as the original but with only the cropped portion, I would just resize the image, correct?
