    Cannot use graphics files

I have been using IrfanView for years and have found it an excellent program. Always in the past I have been able to download jpegs and when necessary gifs to the "My Pictures" file, and later open them. copy, paste, format, &c.

But now suddenly if I open one of these files with IrfanView I get the picture in the middle of a black page, and when I right-click on it nothing happens (left click, of course, does nothing either). I cannot copy the image or do anything at all with it.

FaceBook now does something similar with photos posted in people's accounts: click on a photo and you get it in the middle of a black page and can do nothing with it. But in FB you just reload and you get the normally responsive photo which you can copy, download, &c. In IrfanView, however, there is not reload button with which to do this.

Can someone explain what is going on and how to restore my collection of graphics files to usefulness?

Not without some more information. Are you quite sure that it is Irfanview that is displaying it wrongly. If so and you have been using Irfanview for some time you presumably know about Display options (window mode) on the View menu, so tell us what option you are using. Then what size is the image (in pixels) and what size is your screen and what zoom ratio are you looking at? (It is in the Status bar below the image).
Even if it is not the fault of Irfanview someone may still be able to help, but tell us exactly how and from where are you downloading it. Many sites restrict the maximum size of the image that you can download.

      Hi,

      1. is the IrfanView window maximized?
      2. in the properties / settings in the section "Viewing" is the box "Use right mousebutton for context menu" checked?

      Regards
      Nils
