    Solved 256 bmp

how to get the pixels from a picture into easy format, 1 byte per pixel

    e.g. from a .png

    i_view32 pic.png /convert pic.bmp

gives a 24-bit bmp, which I don't know how to read

same for tif , shouldn't tif be 1 byte per pixel ?

when I look at the pic with paintbrush and magnify, then I can see the pixels

    #2
    OK, I solved it.
Loading the pic into irfanview without commandline, then trying to save it
in another format made me try the .pbm format which I didn't know
    and which is fine.

In paintbrush it lets me save as 24-bit bmp and as 256-bit bmp
but irfanview had only one bmp, which confused me a bit
