Strange behavior when acquiring an image scan / lack of proper scanning tutorial

    - IrfanView 4.54 32 bit Standalone on Windows 10 64 bit latest system.
    - Samsung SCX4500 scanner and printer /TWIN32 drivers installed in the system

    When selecting

    File > Select Scan/TWAIN source > Samsung SCX 4500 Series 2.2(32-32) or WIA-Samsung SCX 4500 Series 1.0 (32-32)

via interface menu, this choice is presented only ONCE. Further attempts to invoke this choice result in nothing.

Further to the above, when selecting

    File > Select Scan/TWAIN source > Acquire/Batch scanning

via interface menu (or, Ctrl-Shift-A, alternatively), either a TWAIN error is presented or, again, results in nothing.

HOWEVER, once I run a pre-scan in standard Windows FAX and SCAN system application, the above commands execute just fine, no TWAIN error is detected, and a scanner's interface invokes without problem.

    - Is this how IrfanView scanning functionality is supposed to work by default? Would it be different for X64 version(s) standalone/desktop?
    - Is there a proper scanning tutorial for X64 systems?

PS: In response to similar queries, I often see the moderator post an advantage of 32 bit version over the 64 bit one, in particular:
    • ...
    • Command line options for scanning (/scan etc.) work only in 32-bit (because no 64-bit TWAIN drivers)
However I am not sure what it means. That NO SCANNING is supposed to work on x64 systems? Mine works fine, but only if I use the work-around as described.
