Unable to use "Extract all Frames" on .mp4 videos - get error message

I've been trying to use the extract all frames option on several different smallish mp4 files, but keep getting an error message "couldn't get movie information (DirectShow)."

Would very much appreciate information on how to fix this so it will work!
