Good thing to be in the IT world, so I know a few more things

After tearing out some hair, I found it out: it is a WRONG LINK in the activation e-mail!
You have to manually change it to get properly activated.

To complete your registration, please visit this url:
http://irfanview-online.com/vb/regis...xxx&i=xxxxxxxx

This has to be changed to:

http://en.irfanview-forum.de/vb/register.php?a=act&u=xxxx&i=xxxxxxxx

Very bad code indeed.
The redirection from irfanview-online.com (old) to en.irfanview-forum.de (new) DOES work, but the php parameters (a, u, i) are lost due to not being properly taken to the new location, thus ignored, so it is never possible to get properly activated, because the redirect will always warp the user to the index page!!

Actually the domain irfanview-online.com is (since yesterday) only a "forwarding" domain to en.irfanview-forum.de .

I changed the settings in the forum software today !

I've found a custom captcha very effective. For me it was enough to change the used font.

Frankin' spammers multiply like bacteria in lukewarm soup. I haven't had any in my (very small, quiet) forum for quite a while, I keep it updated (SMF). But I noticed an oddity in my site stats today that led me to www.stopforumspam.com -- the IPs are on their lists. I think I had some sort of file hotlinking going on, probably an iframe. Anyway, scum is as scum does.

The recaptcha system is better than nothing but obviously it still allows spammers to send posts.

But please re-enable moderators
- to ban users
- to delete posts without having to endlessly enter our password
