Solved "Load Unicode plugin at program start" option is greyed out

    • Fresh install of Irfanview 4.42 x64
    • Fresh install of Windows 10 Pro x64 Build 14393 (Anniversary)
    • 64-bits plugin package is installed
    • All are installed to \Irfanview\ on non-system non-removable disk

    Any assistance is appreciated.

It is impossible at all, because the unicode plugin x64 does not exist. Only x32 exists.

From the IrfanView 64-bit version page.

Advantages of IrfanView 32-bit over 64-bit version:

      • Runs on a 32-bit and 64-bit Windows
      • Loads all files/images for normal needs (max. RAM size is about 1.3 GB)
      • Needs less disc space
      • All PlugIns will work: not all PlugIns are ported (yet) to 64-bit (like OCR) and some 32-bit PlugIns must be still used in the 64-bit version, some with limitations (see the "Plugins32" folder)
      • The Unicode and many Adobe 8BF PlugIns can't work on 64-bit
      • Command line options for scanning (/scan etc.) work only in 32-bit (because no 64-bit TWAIN drivers)

By the way, metadata plugin, 4.43, is available for 32- and 64-bit version, ported to Unicode. IPTC data are now written in UTF-8 by default. See under "PlugIns updated after the version 4.42".

Ah, thanks for your replies. I did see that some plugins weren't supported, but assumed that one (critical as it is) would be among the first ported over. Sorry about that.
