The facilities of the "Show paint dialogue" are great for simple editing of images but text entry is time difficult when precise placement is required. Text entry requires one to click a position before entering any text. The "Hold to preview" can then be used to show where and how that text will be shown. The problem is if the text is now in the wrong place there is no way to adjust the location without dismissing the "Insert text" dialogue. When the dialogue is reopened the text that was entered plus its formatting has been lost.
My suggestion is that the "Insert text" dialogue have four additional buttons for Left, Right, Up and Down that can be used to move the insertion point for the text. Then the text position can be fine tuned by using these new move buttons and the "Hold to preview" button.
(Just checked with Irfanview 4.42 - 32 bit)
