Reported Images with Alpha channel show completely black

I have been an Irfanview user for 15 years plus.
For as long as I can remember, there has been this problem that loading an image with an Alpha channel, this image in Irfanview then shows completely black.
The same image in the web browser shows normal.

When this image is saved afterwards, in any format whatsoever, the final saved image is completely black.

The only way to make the image visible in Irfanview is to select: Image>Show_Channel>Alpha

An example of this is

I want to convert (save) this PNG to another format, but I cannot do anything with it using Irfanview.

Any way to get around this?

Change the main window colour in Properties/Settings, Viewing to some other colour.
