    Implemented Zoom using scroll wheel

That's it. The convenience of zooming in and out with the mouse's scroll wheel, at least in full screen mode. Could this be possible?

Hold down the control key and scroll.

      Zoomi With Mouse

I request that we enable the ability to zoom by holding the right mouse button & using the wheel. Thus avoiding the keyboard altogether.
It may seem like a small thing, but I think a lot of people would be able to appreciate this. Also, it could possibly be implimented without impeding irfanviews current right-click functions.

I've already suggested something similar a while ago in email... wasn't received well, I think... because users would have to change a longtime habit of Irfanview.

However.... I'm so used to zooming in/out with the wheel in other programs... (and NOT holding CTRL) ...that I'd argue for changing the wheel's basic function to zooming, and use CTRL+Wheel to cycle through pictures.

Main reason: I have spent a good deal time with Irfanview modifying some picture... then I accidentally roll the wheel to zoom... and all my work is lost when Irfanview cycles to another picture!! No warning, no forgiveness, no nothing... all work LOST. That is VERY frustrating... Irfanview should issue a warning at least, like "All changes will be lost, if you cycle picture... Continue?". However... I still maintain it would be nicer to have Zoom as default wheel function!!

I'm thinking zoom is somewhat 'standard' wheel function in other programs... and it's nice to have consistency among graphics managers.

            Ah.... Thanks for that anyway.

I wasn't going to post again for just a 'thank you', but then I thought...
...that setting should be a Default !! (<< Suggestion

I think your request is very reasonable if applied when the option Jump to next image if Page keys or mouse wheel used (if vertical scrollbar visible) has been deselected in Properties > Browsing/Editing. Does anyone risk using the scroll wheel when it does one thing (scrolling up and down) if the scrollbar is visible and quite another (go to next slide) when it is not?

IMHO this option is the one to choose if you are doing a lot of zooming and scrolling. You still have the Page Up and Page Down keys available to fast scroll up and down and the various fast or slow scroll functions of the scrollbar, even if you do avoid the arrow keys because of the dual function of right/left. There are also still several ways to browse to the next slide when you need to. So I think it would be little loss if the mouse wheel were given over completely to Zooming in this option, possibly both with or without Ctrl pressed.

I don't think Irfan view would have to change any lifelong habits at all if it were implemented correctly. Except maybe those who use the option to bring up the menu on right-click in the options pannel; though it's possible even this could be overcome by either disabling the menu when 'zoom' is triggered, or adding an extra option like:

                >Properties/Settings
                >Viewing
                -Scrolling/Zooming (Default)
                or
-Use right button for context menu

Please don't underestimate how awesome this feature would be. I want it so bad. lol

Sorry, Bohdan, I find it difficult to see why this is so Awesome. I realize that your right mouse button + wheel is a one handed operation whereas Ctrl+wheel requires two, but what do you want to do with the other hand anyway? I do not know of any other application that uses this method, or even if it is possible.

I don't know of any other application that uses the mouse wheel to move through a collection. I use lots of programs that use the mouse wheel to zoom in/out. As a result, I often find myself several images away from where I was - sometimes having lost changes* . Please, please could we have the option for the mouse wheel - on its own - to zoom.

                    * I can't find the option mentioned by Bhikkhu Pesala in v4.1. Is it in a later version? Might be time for an upgrade...

There are lots of slideshow/presentation applications that use the mouse wheel to move on - Powerpoint, Faststone viewer slideshow and, of course, Irfanview slideshow for starters. Irfanview has had this quasi-slideshow using the fullscreen browser with Shift+A for a long time, and I expect using the mouse wheel to move the image on came in with that.

Do not confuse the two feature requests that are on the table though, Alan. Bohdan proposed use of wheel+right mouse button for zooming, not wheel alone as in yours and the original request.

I support your arguments for using wheel alone for zooming though but I have reservations about introducing yet another option for mouse and key functions. There are already two options (in v4.25); Use right button ... in Viewing options, and Jump to next image... in Browsing/Editing giving 4 different combinations of mouse usage.

My suggestion is to leave the default options alone for the benefit of those who use and are familiar with them. So with Jump to next image... checked wheel alone would still move on the image selection and Ctrl+wheel would zoom. However with Jump to next image... unchecked the wheel would never move the image on. The loss of that confusing feature would in itself be an advantage to some. I argued further that the loss of the wheel for scrolling up and down in that option would be a very small loss, so it was reasonable to request your zoom with wheel alone feature there.

Yes. It is time to upgrade to 4.25.

Well it's much easier for me, because I have my computer sitting in a draw, underneath my desk. (It pulls out flat, so you can type.) Sometimes I just want to be able to browse through my files with my feet up at my desk without shifting into an upright position. There are plenty of other times mouse only zooming is helpful, for example when you are displaying images to your friends and you want to position yourself to the side of the monitor and away from your keyboard so everyone can see, and damnit, what if I want to browse some pornos?! lol.

Just because no other aplication uses it does not mean we can't. It's innovative. Zooming, scrolling and shifting through images using mouse only. (Without having to use the tiny buttons in the toolbar.) That to me would make a truely outstanding image viewer. After all, I think that is all most people do most of the time anyway, so why not make it as simple as possible?

                            Hi,

There are some changes in IrfanView V4.32 concerning "zoom using scroll wheel"!

                            see Changelog:

? Improved zooming: CTRL + wheel (keep mouse coordinates) and centered zoom

                            regards
                            Frank

At least now in 4.32 you can never accidentally jump to the next image as long as you have the Ctrl or Shift button pressed down, whatever you do with keys or mousewheel.

I wish that was true about not messing up your Desktop settings when using Ctrl+mousewheel. That's twice I have done it now while testing features for somebody. Grrrh!
