If opened in IranView the file has only 1 colour. If saved from MS Paint and saved as PNG the PNG file has 256 colours when opened in IrfanView.
I assume that the problem lies in the scanner saving them in a format that is not supported by IrfanView. Does MS Paint have any batch conversion tools? If not, try XnView. FastStone Image Viewer also sees only black, just like IrfanView.

Serif PhotoPlus opens the file OK and has a batch conversion option.

Thing is, this TIF was converted from a PDF file to TIF using IrfanView command line:

      %ProgPath%\IrfanView\i_view32.exe %TempPath%\%FILENAME% /tifc=6 /bpp=8 /gray /convert=%TempPath%\*.tif

However this file was converted with an older version of IrfanView, it was version 4.54. After I updated IrfanView to the latest version 4.58 and tried conversion PDF to TIF again from the same source file, the file could be opened without any problems in IrfanView.

So topic can be closed, thank you.
