irfanView saves RGB file in greyscale -- why?

After editing a jpeg file in Irfanview 4.25 on my new Win7-x64 laptop, with everything seeming perfectly normal, I save the file. The result is an 8-bit grayscale file, in low quality compression. What am I doing wrong, or what is IV doing wrong, or what is Windows doing to both of us? Anyone else have this problem?

Check the save dialogue. There is an option to save as greyscale (please remember!).
