Big JPG rotation fails

For big JPGs (e.g. 45MB filesize) JPG lossless rotation fails with popup: "JPG Transformation error: JPG internal error".

The size on disk doesn't tell us much — it is the size in memory where any limitation might be. What does the file information dialogue tell you is the size of the image in pixels and size in memory?

I just rotated losslessly a big image of 7145 x 4760 Pixels without any problem on my 1 Gbyte Win XP system

Also no problem with an image of 10800 x 8128 pixels, 250 Mbytes in memory.

File is 20608x12880x24BPP 760MB in memory. I tried that on WinXP with 3GB RAM and Win7 with 4GB RAM.

I can create a new image of those dimensions — the size in memory is 759.40 Mbyte — but I get a JPG save error if I try to save it. This image is just too big for IrfanView to handle. You can ask Irfan if you like, but I think he will say that this is not a bug. There has to be a limit somewhere, and until a 64-bit version is released that is not likely to increase.
