Irfanview is not responding when I open a file from a folder with many graphics files

    Hi,

    Irfanview 4.57, 64 bit
When I open a graphics file (usually JPG) from a folder with more than 1300 files (starts probably with 200 files), then Irfanview opens the file instantly, but when I want to do anything, e.g. zoom in our out, then Irfanview does not respond. After a few seconds Irfanview says something like "not responding" in the title bar (not always), and then after 3 to 20 seconds Irfanview works normally again.
When I open another file from this folder the next files behave normally. However, sometimes other files have the same problem.
The file size is between some 100 kB and up to 4 MB. I do not notice that this behaviour is more striking with a larger file size.

I do not think that this has anything to do with our anti-virus application, as I do not have any problems, when I copy the file into another folder without other graphics files.
My impression is that this started some versions back. In the past (i.e. one or two years ago) everything was fine.
    I notice this regularly.

Is this something which someone else had already noticed?
    Can I do anything?

    Best regards

    Winfried

Turn off resampling when zooming/fitting to window from the View menu, Display options.

I can't reproduce the problem. I tried to copy over 2000 pictures to a single folder and I can open those files in IrfanView without problems.

When you open a file in IrfanView, you also use a lot of files and drivers of your operating system, usually Windows.
If Windows has too little memory to store data, because you have other programs open, this will slow down the system.

If your system has memory enough try to update graphics and system drivers and see if the problem is gone. To update the drivers,
you can use a tool like 3DP-Chip (https://www.3dpchip.com/3dp/chip_down_lite.php?pl=en) or
        Driver Booster (https://www.iobit.com/de/driver-booster.php).
Both are free, at least for private use.
