    Requested Add 'Sort by Resolution' to Options|'Sort directory files'

    Currently Irfanview 4.40 x64 in Options|'Sort directory files'
    you may sort either:
    • by Name,
    • by Name(natural/logic order),
    • by Date,
    • by EXIF date,
    • by Size and
    • by Extension

    I would suggest please to add sorting by dimensions.

    Here is a use case:
    commonly, there are images which are better compressed than others, therefore having better resolution and smaller file size.
    For example: these two files, both from the same Instagram profile:
    1. Disk Size: 174 KB -----> 1080x1080
    2. Disk Size: 175 KB -----> 640x640

    In this case, 'Sorting by Size' makes Irfanview show firstly the 2nd image and then the 1st.

    This is very common, especially when viewing images from instagram or facebook.
    Also, 'Sorting by Dimensions' is a feature that File Explorer offers.

    PS. Using win10 x64.

    These additional options are available in the Thumbnail Viewer.

      Ok, but I would like to use it while viewing images in fullscreen mode in IrfanView.
      (Thumbnail Viewer is for browsing the thumbnails of the images)

        If you sort them in File Explorer into the order you want them, just select them all by pressing Ctrl+A. Then pick them all up by clicking on the top one and drag and drop them onto your Irfanview shortcut icon.
        They will then display in the order they were in File Explorer. (New feature in v4.40)

        You can also drag and drop them onto an open Irfanview window, although if you are already in fullscreen mode you would have to press Alt+Tab to get your File Explorer window back on top and select the new images to show.

          Thanks for the tip!
          I'd prefer IrfanView to offer "sort by Dimensions", though - i.e. not having to use File Explorer to do the sort first,
          and that's because every time I do a sort like this in a folder with a lot of files, it causes File Explorer (win10) to scan the whole EXIF data from all images, every single time,
          thus taking waaay long to complete (even in my SSD).
          (relative post: Sorting by Date - Very Slow )

          My suggestion is IrfanView to offer this kind of sorting without File Explorer, if possible.
