Requested Open/Save file dialogue: Show folder path and recent places

A lot of softwares, included freeware (e.g. PSPad), offer the above mentioned capabilities (see attachment). It makes it a lot easier to directly jump to the desired folder since either the path can be copied from a shell or file explorer or it is listed in 'recent places'.

As of now you have to browse your way up and down the folder structure. Only the open file dialogue has the option to show 'recent places' while the 'save/save as' has not.

The recent folders list is shown on the Save dialogues too.

There is a Recent folders dropdown box on the Save dialogue but it does not show you the full MRUD list as the Open dialogue does.
It would not be very useful though. You really want a full list of all the places where you have saved to recently not what you have opened.

Strange, I am using Irfanview 4.44 - 32 bit on Win 7 and in the save/save as dialogue there is nothing like recent folders or similar shown. Could you please attach a picture to clearify what you are mentioning, Mij?

However, for me the folder path would be even more helpful than the recent places option. I am not a programmer but to me it seems like these dialogues are standard things which you just implement and not program yourself. And since a lot of freeware programs have them, they are likely to be free as well.

No need to do that, you can paste (or type) the path into the Filename field. Works not only for IrfanView, but for all the save and open dialogs I know.

          currently running 4.56 / 32 bit

For what it's worth with Win 10 I get this when I click on the Recent files drop down arrow in the Save or Save As dialogs.

I have never worked out how to change what is on that list but I have a few useful shortcuts set up in the Favorites folder that I have used at times.
Unfortunately there is a bug if you have Unicode turned on in the Options so it is not very useful.
