    Requested Batch Conversion w/Thumbnails

    Hi,

I'd love to see an option added to IrfanView that allows me to do a Batch Conversion of a set of images, and automatically create a corresponding set of thumbnails to go with them based on settings I define (ex: all 200px wide). This would be a big time-saver for me personally.

I'd also appreciate a way to force IrfanView to use a specific folder as its default browse folder, regardless of any activity I've done previously. I often have to navigate back to the same folder location to do multiple sets of images after a batch conversion.

    Thanks for a great product!

See my tutorial on Creating an HTML Thumbnail Gallery. That generates thumbnails for each picture.

What are you looking for? You already can set the program start folder as a specific folder or the last used folder in Properties>Misc. 2. You can also optionally open the batch dialog in the last used batch folder versus the last browsed folder. Plus, you can select any one of your 10 MRUDs (Recent Directories) from the File menu or up to 100 MRUDs in the Thumbnail window's MRUD drop-down. From there you can initiate a batch operation. If that weren't enough, you could make shortcuts in Windows and right-click them to browse.

I guess I just needed to explore the options a bit more, setting the default folder under Misc 2 was exactly what I needed. I had tried dropping shortcuts before, but Irfanview seemed to always randomly drop me random folders previously so that wasn't a good solution.

        Thanks for the tip!

          ninfan87,

Where have you been all this time?

I don't think you can drop a folder shortcut in IrfanView, but you certainly should be able to drop a file shortcut. The shortcut can also be dropped on IrfanView's shortcut.

You can however right click a folder shortcut, and choose IrfanView from the Send To menu or choose "Browse with IrfanView". To set these shell menu items look at the bottom of Properties>Extensions. You can even add LNK to the custom types list if you wanted to browse file links (shortcuts).

If you are looking for another way to do quick batch conversion, why not try the command line options? You can create a shortcut or a whole batch file.
