The way to go for the future is a fully customisable inteface so that users can define their own shortcuts, menus, and toolbar buttons.

I agree and have been hoping for years with each update that it's has been implemented. Alas it hasn't.

I sent a reminder to Irfan Skiljan on January 18th. He is thinking about how best to add more buttons. I don't think a complete reworking of the UI is on the cards. We will all have to wait and see what version 4.63 brings us.
