    Better printing options

Hi. I just downloaded 4.59 and I like the new option to 'Fill paper'.

It would be great to have some improvement to the basic printing functions. I find it very difficult to get the image to fit nicely on the page with the existing options.

    (1) Best fit to page. This works well. But there are no margins. Could you please add an option to specify a margin with this, say 2.5cm all round, or some other number you can enter.

    (2) Scale: Width: Height:. Why is there no option to lock together the width and height like in the option above it? And please add up/down arrows to change the number.

    (3) Stretch to page (no aspect ratio). It's never a good idea to stretch an image with different X and Y. This option could be removed to make room for the other stuff.

Hope this helps. Thanks for an excellent product. Bob

There are already too many options, which is what makes it hard to find the right combination. Try these:

Name:	Print Options.png
Views:	329
Size:	92.2 KB
ID:	93336

Note the greyed out margins. Just adjust the width of your image if the printout does not fit within your printer's margins.

Thanks Bhikkhu Pesala for your detailed suggestion. This is similar to what I have been doing. You are setting the image to a custom width or height and centering that on the page.

There are some snags with this, though. You are just setting the margins by eye (or by mental arithmetic on the paper size and the image size). You have to keep going back and forth until you get it right.

Once you have found the correct value, you might think you can set and forget. But, no. If images have different aspect ratios, some are limited by their height and others by their width. So you have to keep swapping between different values. It's all a bit laborious. It would be better if the computer worked it out for you. Hence my suggestion.

Bhikkhu Pesala's post under "Better printing options" (10.12.2021 - 12:28 PM) shows a "Printer Preview" menu popup which appears to address difficulties I am having.

However, I haven't been able to find it (IrfanView 4.59 32-bit Windows 10 Home).. "Stretch to Fit" sounds like just what I need.

Could someone point me at it?

I should add that, under the File menu, there is a "Print...", but it is grayed out -- inaccessible.

About automatic margins: This function was in the ImPDF plugin, but it is no longer supported, and it can suddenly stop working. It would be good to add the same functionality. Now you have to do a lot of extra actions, so I use other programs, and this is not so convenient.
