    Updates flagged as malicious

I can't view PSD files in Irfanview 4.38. They come out looking like dirty laundry. I can open them with Windows Picture Viewer and they look fine but not with Irfanview.
I note there is a newer version so I tried to download it and the Tucows and other sites are all setting off alarms on my system. Chrome won't even allow downloads from any of the sites I was presented with after clicking the download link on the Irfanview home page.

Actually last time I tried I ended up with some shopping virus that was throwing ads in my face every 10 seconds or so. It hijacked my browser and would not shut down. Windows Defender wouldn't kill it, Advanced System Care wouldn't kill it. I finally got my browser back after getting to a YouTube video that explained how. Then I got Adaware and it found and killed the virus.

All that took nearly a week.

What's up with all these horrible download sites? Seems like they are all infected. Is there any other way to update Irfanview so I can open PSD files and get the right colors?

    Thanks.

I agree. It is a thoroughly frustrating experience getting the setup files.

Firefox blocks Tucows for me too, and the other Techspot was no help at all.

Take care installing 4.40 if you can get the installer, or you will get some Amazon Adware.

1: I don't know, what Tucows, MajorGeeks and other software distributing sites do. Personally I dont't think that they distribute software that is infected with a virus.
When I download freeware, I either get it from the developers site or alternatetivly from www.softpedia.com.
Softpedia guarantees 100 % virus free downloads

2: Some virus protection software not only alarms, when a virus or trojan ist detected, but also when adware is included in the installation file. I just banned IZARC fom my PC,
because Avira Antivir always alarms when it finds the installation file. Installing Irfanview does not give any alarm.

      3) Irfanview is not only available as setup file (.exe), but also as a .zip archive, which does not offer to install other software.

Irfan Skiljan said to use the Primary links on his home page:

        http://www.irfanview.info/files/iview440_setup.exe is a direct link.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/deta...w_plugins.html the plugins are on Major Geeks

If you still have trouble, let me know, and I will provide some links on my own site.

Viruses are not usually the problem, but PUPs, and once these get onto your system, they can open you to all manner of other problems.

It's a wicked world out there. Everyone is trying to make money, but some do it in a way that is fraudulent. When I go to download IrfanView, I don't want to see a dozen buttons to download other software that I know I do not need. Even the legitimate installer try to install a button for Amazon. I cannot install Adobe Reader any more without it being assumed that I also wish to install Chrome browser. I really don't need the hassle.

Less computer-savvy users very soon have a system so clogged up with malware and adware that their PC is completely unusable.
