not viewing Sony RAW files in full size, reduced size only

This is odd. I recently got a Sony A7Rii camera. When I opened the Sony RAW images in the latest version of IrfanView 64bit (with the plugins installed), the image opened and I was able to view it in its full size by clicking View>Original Size.

Something has changed though in terms of IrfanView behavior. Now only small sized previews are avaialalble, and clicking Original Size doesn't enlarge the image. It remains the same size.

I know these are the full RAW files b/c I don't shoot JPG as well.

Can anyone explain this and how I can enable full size in IrfanView? I did an uninstall>reinstall but that didn't help.

This doesn't happen with Canon Raw files.

Check-out the settings for Plugins. Loading half-sized images is the default because it's an image viewer, not an image editor.

I only checked a single sample photo from this camera, but it looks camera-related. A 42.56 MP arw file (from DPReview) has a much smaller, 1616 x 1080 preview jpg embedded. All Canon's cameras that I know embed a full-sized jpg in cr2 files. Look at the camera's settings and manual. To see the full-sized arw image in IV, just change the settings/plugins. Opening huge raw files via IV's raw plugin takes some time (file has to be demosaiced etc.) and using IrfanView as a raw converter is pointless, although possible.

      Have a nice day!
