    Setting default language

    Hello,
i'm using the newest Irfan View version.
Is it possible to set the default language for all users via registry?

How can i set globaly the file extensions, e.g. to link jpg to irfan view?

    Thanks
    Dennis

I assume that all you need to do is install IrfanView for all users, then set the language and extensions in Settings.

What Bhikkhu Pesala says above is true if you if you choose "for all users" when installing Irfanview.

If you also choose to install Irfanview in the "Program Files" or "Program files(64)" folder then when you later change the language setting for Irfanview from the dialog in the program, it will only apply to the individual user currently running the program. That is because it is stored, not in the Registry, but in the file i_view32.ini (or i_view64.ini) in the Appdata folder of the current user.
If you installed Irfanview anywhere else the language setting will be applied for all users, because that .ini file will then be in the same folder as the Irfanview program and shared by all users.

The extensions are a bit different. They are saved in the Registry by Windows and, when changed in the Irfanview "Extensions" dialog, apply just to the individual user in all cases. In addition though, the Registry entries can be changed through the Control panel using the "Default programs" dialog, when other image programs are installed or used, or by right clicking on an image file and Selecting "Open with..".

I think what you do through Control Panel may well be global, but "Open with .." applies to the current user only. If there are individual Irfanview ini files for each user, the entry for Extensions is not updated until that user next makes changes in the "Extensions" dialog, so be cautious of always believing what it says.
