Irfanview display of exr differs from photoshop, mplay

I have an exr digitally rendered image that displays in photoshop with bright highlights, however it displays in irfanview very dull. I can understand loss of data due to conversion but this is exactly the same file being displayed by photoshop and irfanview. Attached is a screen shot of what I am seeing. Any ideas why this is happening?

    This sample file looks OK.

I recommend using a proper photo-editor to open High Dynamic Range images. the plugin only has one setting as far as I know, which may not work for all images.

The EXR plug-in has been updated with a new formula for the transfer function. Since there are many varieties of EXR files with different word lengths and gamma, EXR users, please check if there are any regressions and tell Irfan Skiljan about them while has this stuff fresh in memory.

The most common format containing half-precision float16 pixels with linear 1.0 gamma should now be corrected to gamma 2.2 on loading.

The sample was wrong. You can see that it topped out at 165 on the histogram with zero pixels above that value.

The test images on the OpenEXR site now look close to their reference renderings. The blacks are slightly brighter in IrfanView because a gamma of 2.2 is applied instead of the sRGB transfer curve for simplicity and to undo the gamma that is often applied on saving.
