Display of image during audio playback

I use IrfanView for multimedia presentations. It's very handy since it can show jpeg images, display videos and play audio files without leaving IrfanView.

However, I've found no way to dispaly an image while an audio file is playing, the screen goes to black.

New capability request: Have the option of displaying an image while an audio file is playing

    Thanks, Bob

    Added Explanation

Just to explain further, I put images, videos and audio files into the same folder in the order I want and then use the full screen mode in Irfanview to step through the files, using the arrow key to advance through the files. I haven't found any other single application where I can mix all three file types without distracting borders or images (in full screen mode).

I can order the files by renaming them but I was looking for a way to have the thumbnails displayed and just move them around with the mouse into the right order.

I tried reordering in windows explorer and then displaying them in Irfanview with "no order" selected but it didn't work.

    Thanks, Bob

Add an MP3 file to the slideshow file list.

Please read the help file before posting.
There are several options for slideshow. If there is a check mark in the box, the option is "on." Unchecked means "off." Click Loop slideshow to cause the slideshow to play continuously. The next option is Suppress errors during playing. Next option is Loop MP3 files. You can use MP3 files (with installed PlugIns) as background music, so you can loop one MP3 file until the next MP3 is loaded or the slideshow ends
I saw only your first post. You can also reorder the files in a slideshow.

        Audio File

        Bhikkhu Pesala,

I understand that I can do what you point out. However, the audio file I am playing is a short clip that I only want to play at a certain point in the presentation. For example:

jpeg, jpeg, video clip, jpeg, mp3 (a short joke), jpeg, video, mp3 (a second short joke), jpeg, etc.

I only want the mp3 file to play once and only at the appropriate place in the presentation and then stop. Irfanview is a very good tool for this since I can mix all these file types in full screen mode and control the presentation with just arrow clicks. I was just wondering if there was a way to show an image during the playback of the mp3 file (and only at that point in the presentation). The image would be a picture of the comedians doing the skit while the mp3 plays.

        Thanks for your help, Bob

Try it and see. If you uncheck the "Loop MP3" box it should work if your files are in the right order.

            Didn't work

I tried using "Slideshow" and unchecking the 'Loop MP3" option but I still got a blank screen while the mp3 file played (except for the play progress button in the middle of the screen).

I tried with only JPG MP3 JPG JPG JPG JPG JPG JPG JPG and it worked fine. The MP3 played until it finished so one would need to make the delay equal to the MP3 length, or use manual advance of the slides.

I noticed that my audio file was in wma format instead of mp3. Should that make a difference? It plays ok in irfanview but still a blank screen even in slideshow mode even when preceded by a jpg file. Irfanview displays a progress bar as the audio plays. I stil have the "loop MP3" option unchecked.

The help file only mentions MP3 so I guess it does make a difference. WMA will use a media player plugin. Easy enough to convert files to MP3.

A while ago I did some testing with audio- and image-files in the Slideshow.
You can read the report here.
It appeared indeed that other soundformats not behave in the same way as an MP3.
To convert WMA to MP3 you could use WinLame.
