    Adding Captions to an Image

    Gang -

I am a very unsophisticated user. irfanview is no doubt much more than I need but even though I only scratch the surface I like it.

I would like to add captions to some pictures. I see from the View window I can turn captions on/off. When I do that it turns on/off the top line (title bar with blue background) of my window.

OK, how do I actually add a caption? I looked through help & searched but couldn't find what I needed.

I should say here that I probably do not have all the plugins loaded. I have been using Irfanview for several months and forget what I loaded for plugins. If I need to add plugins should I just start from scratch and reload everything?

I am using Version 4.00 with Windows XP (Home) SP2.

    Thanks in advance.

    Bob

BTW, I am able add a text box inside the actual photo but I'm looking for a way to add a caption outside of the picture.

Image, Canvas Size, and add a border to top or bottom.
Select an area in the border, and Control T, to Type Text in the Selection.

      Thanks

Thanks - I was able to insert my caption via your instructions.

Is there anyway to remove or edit the text later? I couldn't find a way to remove borders after the image had been saved. Doing borders again appeared to add to the existing border.

It looks like if I need to edit a caption I can uncheck 'transparent text' and just put another comment over the original. Is there a better way?

Select the picture only, and crop, Control Y.

Select the caption and Cut, control X.

The best way is to use a page layout program for adding captions, then they remain as editable text. Text never looks as good when converted to graphics.

        Try PagePlus SE (Freeware)
