    Text pages in Slideshow

I typically run an Irfanview slideshow as a text file containing a list of JPEG images. What is the best way to insert a text page into the slideshow?

This is fuzzy, because there could be a difference between a text file and a text page.
The list is in a simple ascii format, while a text page could be in different formats, like .doc or .pdf.

You could just include the text file's name in the slideshow list. I think the best way would be to create a new image and add neatly formatted text with Irfan Paint. (F12)

You can include a .TXT file as an entry in a Slideshow list. The text file, as Sam_Zen said, must be in standard ASCII and could be saved from a program such as Notepad or from a Slideshow dialog. It will appear as an image in the show, so that you could read it as an index page perhaps. Is that what you had in mind?
Or are you asking how to add extra image file names, stored within a text file, to an existing slideshow list? For that you would probably best use a Text editor program, or you could make use of some options within IrfanView Thumbnails. Ask again if you want further instructions.

A specific and practical distinction pops up here between text in a text-format, and a bitmap with the text.
If it's a picture, then the text-data itself is in fact no longer there.

This is why, as Mij stated, IV can show an ASCII .txt-file in the row, but the text can't be edited.

If such a file should be shown, better be aware of the normal picture dimensions which is 'landscape',
while original textfiles often more have a 'portrait' representation. Much more height than width.

So to avoid a text with very small characters, it may be useful to rearrange the text first within the horizontal space.
