Solved FITS and FTS formats

How can I get IrfanView to recognize a fts file as fits? I use software that captures CCD images to FITS format, but gives the file a .fts extension. If I change the extension on the filename from fts to fits, IrfanView reads it fine.

Hi Mark,

I just tried with a FITS file. It seems only .fits and .fit extensions are recognized by IrfanView. Can't you configure your acquisition software so that it saves images with the .fit/.fits extension?
Also be aware that FITS from CCD cameras (astronomy?) have 12 to 16 bits per pixel and that IrfanView works with only 8 bits per pixel.
