    LuraWave JP2 Plugin Registration

I just downloaded IrfanView 4.23. When I went to use it, I was told that I hadn't downloaded the plugins, so I did that (conveniently in one .exe file). Once I did that, I went to change, then save, a file, and a window for LuraWave JP2 popped up and asked for my registration number. What is this? I thought IrfanView was freeware. Who/what is LuraWave, and why must I pay for it? How do I get rid of it? It is not mentioned in the list of plugins.

    Thanks.

IrfanView is freeware. LuraWave provide the JP2 plugin, which can be used for images up to 640 x 480 pixels only. For larger images, registration is required.

I've never noticed any benefit of JP2 format — it is painfully slow. Why do you need it?

You can save JP2 from FastStone Image Viewer (freeware), which doesn't seem to have any limitations.

But how does one properly register any of needed to register plugin(s) from inside IrfanView, say?

Don't see the registration box there.. and when enter the correct serial into the plugin (the one you have in the picture above, say) .. - it allows to save the picture in that format (if enter not valid serial - it would not allow)

BUT .. the next time you would go to save the picture in that format again - it pops up again to enter a serial AGAIN ..
and same thing.. - if correct serial is provided - it will allow to save the pic

BUT .. basically - one would need to enter there serial every time ..
seems like plugin doesn't memorize the serial..

Or maybe the computer reboot is needed?
Or any other correct way to register a plugin with a proper serial?

      Thanks

Have you taken Bhikkhu's suggestion to use FastStone instead? Or OpenJPEG.

That's another subject matter already .. and SURELY a workable alternative (thanks!)

BUT above, I was, specifically, just asking about registration with a proper serial (describing the situation in detail)

          That's all :-)

Other than that .. i hardly use that JP2 format as well..

Even though tried to save few times in that format .. with default settings .. - and an Image DID turn out to be a sharp looking one, good quality one

AFAIA you do not need to 'register' any Irfanview Plugins - if you followed directions to update your Irfanview version, then returned to Irfan's website to download the latest Plugins, as soon as they are installed - they automatically install to correct folder.

What you do need to do, is reset your file associations.

It's great that you don't need to uninstall previous versions before downloading the latest - however, this is inclined to make you forget to reset those file extensions.

Having just downloaded v 4.5 (plus plugins) for myself & everything running as per - just assisted a friend through procedure - turned out she had omitted to alter the file extensions which of course needed resetting.

Bit late in the day - having only just seen your query - but hope this helps

No, Darkman00 is referring to the JPEG2000 plugin, which does require registration if you want to take advantage of it beyond demo use.

Some of IrfanView's plugins are shareware, despite most being freeware, like IrfanView. Theoretically, even IrfanView should be registered if you like it.

Are you trying to save an image larger than 640x480 like the dialog says? What do you wish to do?
