    Zoom Problems

I don't know what I did, but all of a sudden, every image that I open in IrfanView shows a Zoom number in the header and the image itself appears blurry. It doesn't matter if I resize the image, it does not make any difference.

I was in the process of resizing some images when this happened and I can't figure out what I did, nor how to fix the problem. I have attached a sample image to demonstrate what I mean.

The zoomed dimensions in the title bar will show whenever the zoom level is not 100% — that's new and nothing to worry about.

The blurring looks like you used too much compression when resizing your images. Go back to the originals and try again. Look at the options you used in the batch dialogue.

Thanks for your quick response, but whatever I did also affected the original image and they all look like that. I have tried everything I can think of to get the originals back. I have even had someone else send me a copy of the same image and it looks exactly the same when I view it with IrfanView. Could I have somehow changed the settings in the program? I am using version 4.25 of IV and running Windows Vista on this laptop.

Press F until the image gets back to 100% zoom.

The latest stable IrfanPaint version is the 0.4.13.70.
IrfanPaint is now open-source (released under BSD license).

I've tried that but unfortunately it does not help. I have even re-installed irfanview with the same bad results. I just can't figure out what happened. I may have to get another viewer.

What display options are you using? View>Display options (window mode)

What is the zoom percentage of the picture in question? Is it over 100%? Do you normally view your images at 1:1 or lower? Have you tried Original size (CTRL+H)?

Thanks for your response, and using Irfanview from my laptop at work, I see that it is displaying the image differently than on the home computer where the problem started. I am attaching a screen dump of the view menu to answer that question.

I still think I did something wrong within the program when I was resizing them that created the problem I am having. Unfortunately I have no idea what that was.

So is the problem solved now? Did you determine what setting you preferred on the work computer, to apply to the home computer? It sounds like you may have just hit a hotkey by mistake that changed your view.

No, the problem is not solved, is there a list of hotkeys that I can check to see if that will solve the problem?

Help>Keyboard shortcuts. Or you can look through the menus, many are listed there.

What view do you prefer? Have you tried renaming your INI temporarily and starting with defaults again? Usually that's in your %Appdata%\IrfanView folder.

Right after I posted the question, I found the answer to where the Hotkeys are located. Assuming I hit a Hotkey (+ or -) does the hotkey stay in place until it is removed? In other words, if I find the hotkey that created the problem how do I "undo" it?

Depends on the hotkey. Some change things that must be "undone" or changed to return. Others make changes that are temporary or permanent. Most things are temporary and can be resolved. The zoom (+ or -) just changes the zoom temporarily. You can usually just reload the image or change the zoom level to where it was before. For instance, CTRL+H makes things original size or 100%.

What seems to be the issue? Is the zoom locked to one particular value or something?

I think I figured it out, and the sticky about resizing at the top of the forum were a big help. I guess i hsould have read that earlier. Whatever hotkey I used it was one of those that is not permanent. Thanks for your help.

OK. So, can you tell us what actually happened then, so we know for the future?

I'm pretty sure I hit the + key when I was using the backspace to change the name of the file I was saving. Everything seems to be working like it used to. Thanks again.
