I've just installed the newest version of Irfanview and tried to do the File/Save For Web and I'm told the riot.dll isn't installed - I thought it was included in 4.25?

I presume that you have installed the plugins? Before you post … Edit your profile • IrfanView 4.72 • Windows 10 Home 19045.2486

No, I didn't, because this press release says the lite version was included with the Irfanview installation, so I didn't realize it was necessary to download and install anything separately. I downloaded 4.25 yesterday and installed it, and the riot.dll was not included in the installation.Last edited by freinbeau; 11.08.2009, 12:30 PM.

I can see that this isn't a place for someone who is a bit hesitant (yet knowledgeable) about this program. I apologize for misreading the press release, but not for my inability to get this to work.
I have installed both the riot.dll and the freeimage.dll just downloaded from the download page into the plug in folder, yet the program still doesn't recognize them. I now get the following messages:
Yes, both are in the plug in folder, and I read all the documentation.

You may have read the documentation, but you apparently missed something vital if you installed Freeimage.dll in the plugin folder. This is what the documentation says:
To install the extended version of the RIOT plugin in IrfanView you need to follow these simple steps:
1) make a backup copy of Plugins\Riot.dll (this is the lite version. If you decide to switch back to this version for some reason you will need this file)
2) copy/overwrite Riot.dll from this release in the Plugins folder
3) copy FreeImage.dll in the IrfanView folder (that's where the IrfanView executable is)
Or you can copy FreeImage.dll somewhere in the system path (Like C:\windows or c:\windows\system)
You shouldn't need Freeimage.dll if you're using the Lite version of RIOT that comes with the default installation. Since you're getting that error message, I assume that you have installed the extended RIOT plugin.Last edited by Bhikkhu Pesala; 11.08.2009, 01:42 PM.Before you post … Edit your profile • IrfanView 4.72 • Windows 10 Home 19045.2486

I need to clarify things.
This is not a peculiar construction. FreeImage.dll is not a IrfanView plugin and it can't be in the Plugins folder. In this folder there are only IV plugins. If you use Help->Installed plugins you can see that all dll files from that folder are listed. If you put FreeImage.dll in that folder IrfanView thinks it is a plugin and tries to execute GetPluginInfo function within it.
Don't confuse DLLs with plugins. Not all DLLs are plugins.
FreeImage.dll is simply a library that RIOT uses. It should stay in a folder where IrfanView can load it such as the exe folder or a folder listed in the PATH environment variable.
PS: I said in earlier posts that a setup program might help users. I didn't had time for this.
If you want to help you can create a NSIS script and I will include it.
