    Change Resolution of Screenshot Image?

Hello IrfanView Users! I registered a while ago, but this is my first post. I have been a satisfied user of IrfanView since almost the beginning. Recently though, with the new version (4.25) I discovered that when I made a screenshot of a page and then went to paste that into Photoshop it is at a resolution of 96.012.

I was wondering if there is any way to change this to 72 dpi in the program settings somewhere?

    Thanks.

You can change the image resolution from the Image Information dialogue, but I don't think it will change the resolution on the Windows clipboard. Try it and see.

Where's the Image Information dialogue located? I was hoping there was somewhere in the IrfanView settings where this could be changed permanently. If anyone knows I would appreciate the info. Thanks.

Good grief, at least take a look at the toolbar or menus before asking questions.

Not that I know of. FastStone Capture (see my sig) has such an option. By default it will capture at the screen resolution, but any custom resolution can be chosen in the program's settings.

I recommend loading FastStone Capture at Windows startup. The old version 5.3 is freeware, and it is much more powerful than IrfanView's limited options. It will be available even when IrfanView is not running to capture a screen in any program, e.g. it can capture a full scrolling web page in your browser as a single image.

In my tests, changing the image DPI from the Image Information dialogue seems to work when pasting the capture into other applications.

I was simply asking where it was. I didn't know. Anyway, thanks for the link to FastStone. That's an amazing little utility, and it doesn't even install itself onto the system. Pretty slick.

IrfanView is an amazing little utility - little in terms of size! As with anything new you try out, it can be confusing, trying to find juuust the feature you're looking for. Once you get familiar with IrfanView, you will realize that the Menus are arranged with great thought and precision. Let me tell you how:

            1. The 'File' Menu lets you open, save, save as, batch-save, print, rename, copy and do other file operations. In addition, you also have the neat little scan feature under the File menu.

            2. The 'Edit' Menu lets you do stuff INSIDE your image. Whatever you want to do inside your image is usually done by invoking the Edit menu.

            3. The 'Image' Menu lets you do stuff to your ENTIRE image. Therefore stuff like flipping/ rotating your image, changing image/ canvas size, making color corrections, adding effects to your image, etc., are all done by invoking the Image menu.

            4. The 'Options' Menu is the one you will call upon, for setting your IrfanView preferences. In addition, this is the Menu under which you will find the Multimedia player, the e-Mailer, the OCR feature, the Screen Capture and Set as Wallpaper features.

            5. The 'View' Menu lets you hide/ show parts of the IrfanView GUI and how you would like your full screen to display your images. In addition, it has all the tools you will require for working with Multipage TIFF, PDF, JPM and LDF image.

            6. The last Menu, 'Help', contains the excellent Help, FAQs, List of Keyboard Shortcuts, Installed Plug-ins, Credits, Irfan's Thanks, your Registration Information, Check for Updates, etc.

WellOiledPC, thanks for the sales pitch, but it doesn't really address my issue.

Bhikkhu Pesala, I stopped in to thank you again for the heads up on that FastStone Capture utility. I just recently wrote another tutorial on my blog and FastStone was an awesome help.

The latest registered Shareware version is even better. It can record video.
