Image enlargement

G'Day,

having read good reviews about IrFan on the NET, i decided to give it a try. I enlarged a sample JPEG. I'm quite happy with the results, see attachments, but i still feel i can do better...

Any expert users of the software care to comment if i can improve the result ?

I think it looks better if you don't apply sharpen after resample.

Thanks - there's only a marginal difference btwn using Irfan & resizing the image. See attachments.

Enlarging a small image is never going to get great results — you cannot add information that isn't there in the first place. Even commercial programs like Ben Vista PhotoZoom will only do marginally better than IrfanView.

The best method is to go to where the sign is and take a high resolution digital photo.
