Solved Batch resizing high resolution images, have jagged edges and distortion

i have 980 images to resize. they are high resolution (2550px) - i'm resizing them to 600px, setting the slider to highest quality, savings them as .jpg files.

I started doing this, viewed what Irfanview had batched resized and it renders the image with jagged edges and the image color has wavy lines. These pictures are on a white background - they are product images from the manufacturer.

When I resize them individually, in either a .jpg or a .png format, it renders perfectly with no jagged edges or color distortion. It's only when I batch resize that I have problems.

Can you help me, please, I obviously don't want to have to resize 980 images individually.

Is "resample" checked on the batch advanced options dialogue.

PNG format with transparency is recommended for cutout images, but IrfanView doesn't support alpha transparency so you won't get the best possible results using IrfanView. If the source files are 32-bit with transparency, the output will be 24-bit with transparency at best.

The attachment shows just how bad IrfanView is at resizing alpha transparency images. The original 32-bit image is an icon extracted from the PagePlus executable. That is shown at top left after resizing in PhotoPlus (PhotoShop would do the same).

Top right is the same image resized 200% with an IrfanView batch operation.

Bottom centre is the original image just opened and saved as a 24-bit PNG image. If not for the background, you might not even notice the problem.
