transparencies in png are not maintained

I needed to adjust the overall colour in a png file that also has several transparent areas. It's actually a graphic used as the background menu bar for a website. But after the colour is modified, irfanview seems to cancel the transparent feature of the graphic. I noted that the "transparency" feature was ENABLED during the SAVE process, but the end result is a png file with absolutely no transparent areas. Please help.

Note that IrfanView only supports 24-bit PNG with a single transparent colour. When you save a PNG with transparency you select the transparent colour. On some images you might pick a single pixel, so it will be hard to see the transparent areas.

Solution — don't use IrfanView if you need to edit 32-bit PNG images with alpha transparency.
