    Batch renaming for a newbie

Hello, How do I rename a complete batch of pics?

I previously used Acee Deecee & this process was very simple with a batch rename command.

The page on Irfanview seems a lot more complicated, so far, I've managed to triple my images.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance.

IrfanView's batch rename can be a little confusing if you're not experienced. As far as your issue of multiple images see the image below. When you click the Options button, you'll get a pop-up window with three options.

      1. If this option is checked, IrfanView renames your originals then creates copies in a folder which you specify. If that folder is the same as the current folder, you'll wind up with duplicates in your original folder. You can choose the output folder with the option called "Output directory for result files."

      2. I don't ever use this option so I'm not sure how it works.

      3. This is the one I normally use. I set the output folder to the "Current folder" and it simply renames the files without making copies or moving anything.

You may have to experiment with these options to get the result you want. IrfanView doesn't have a way to preview before you rename, at least not that I know of.
