So slow..

Hi, I'm on Win7 64 bit and just installed Irfanview, trouble is when I double click to open a file or anything re I/view in fact the reaction is very slow, normally everything else opens instantly...but not so with Irfanview?...anyone know why?

After opening an image, open the Information dialogue, and tell us the image size in pixels, and the Load Time in milliseconds.

Here: an image of 1555 x 1555 Pixels loaded in 78 milliseconds.

I counted 12 seconds for the picture to appear?

How many images and/or video files are there in the same directory? IrfanView builds an index of all those.

The image is just sitting there on the desktop

do you resize the picture to the windows size or do some other zoom operation?
What is selected in the menu "View / Display options (window mode)"?

It seems to have cured itself after making it the default programme, I thought it already was?...anyway it is now, thanks for the help.

I wanted to comment on this. I have Windows 7 32-bit as well as my wife and Irfanview is so very very slow at opening. I only experienced this problem after going over to Windows 7. However here is the weird part: If I shut down my anti-virus which is Panda Anti-Virus then Irfanview works instantly. Now my wife has McAfee Anti-Virus and same situation. However on Windows Vista and XP this was never an issue. Wierd, but it is becomming a problem because it is so slow, sometimes up to 1 or 2 minutes to open a picture! Any suggestions or ways to fix this would be great!
