File size not reducing as much as it used to

I have always had my Save As jpeg setting set at 50% which reduced the file size significantly. In the last week or so, this is not happening and I am now getting files saved in megabytes instead of kilobytes. Now a 9.9 mb file only reduces to 8.75mb. Has anything changed in Irfanview?

      No should I?

Also today, instead of opening photo full size, it is opening to fit to screen. I went to properties/options and changed the setting back to full photo and clicked OK but photos still open as fit to screen.

No, but if you had it would explain why high quality images were not being compressed much on saving them.

The display options are on the View menu, not on the Options menu.

The display options are on the View menu, not on the Options menu.

If I go into the View menu, and change to "Do not fit anything", the next photo I open opens to "Fit only big images to desktop".

My settings in Properties/Settings, Full Screen were set on "Show images at original size". Now photos open to "Fit to screen" only and the settings in "Properties/Settings, Full Screen" have been changed to "Fit to screen". If I change the settings back to "Show images at original size" and click OK, the system still opens photos at Fit To Screen. The system is not saving changes when the OK button is clicked on.
