irfanview opening every picture I scan

while scanning slides (photo) since a day or so IRFANVIEW 4.58 (64 bit) is opening every jpg file the scanner software creates (Silverfast 8.8.0r24 64 bit)

Can someone tell me

a) why
b) how to stop this

What used to happen before you installed IrfanView 4.58?
I suspect that you changed your file associations.
